Kissama (Quiçama) National Park

Angola’s flagship park — and the easiest to visit from Luanda (1.5–2 hours south). Operation Noah’s Ark in 2000–2001 reintroduced elephants and other species. Today you can see elephants, giraffes, kudu, ostrich, and growing populations of other game. Day trips and overnight safaris available.

Iona National Park

Angola’s largest national park, in the southern Namibe province. The landscape ranges from desert to Atlantic coastline. Fauna includes desert-adapted animals, ostrich, oryx, and the rare Namib lion. Truly remote — most visitors come on multi-day expeditions with specialized operators.

Cangandala National Park

In Malanje province — home to the giant sable antelope, Angola’s national symbol and one of the world’s most endangered antelope species. Conservation efforts have brought populations back from near extinction. A specialist destination for serious wildlife enthusiasts.

Bicuar National Park

Huíla province park with savanna ecosystems recovering after war years. Wildlife includes leopards, antelope, and growing bird populations. Less developed for tourism but accessible from Lubango.

Luiana Partial Reserve

Part of the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA) — connecting with Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. Cuando Cubango province. The recovering wildlife of the Okavango headwaters.

Booking a Safari

Angola safari tourism is small. Book through Angola-specialized operators (a handful exist in Luanda and abroad), or partner with South African or Namibian operators who run cross-border expeditions. Self-drive is possible in Kissama but challenging in remote parks.

Travel Insurance for Angola

Yellow fever vaccination is required. Comprehensive medical and trip cancellation coverage is essential for travel to Angola.
