Best Beach Destinations

Mussulo Island (near Luanda) — beach clubs, calm water, easy from the capital. Cabo Ledo — surfing, beach lodges, more rugged. Caotinha (Benguela) — turquoise water, dramatic cliffs. Restinga peninsula (Lobito) — boutique hotels with beach access. Praia do Tigres (Namibe) — wild and remote desert beaches.

When to Visit

May to October (dry season) is ideal — clear skies, mild temperatures, calm seas. November to April brings warm but humid weather and afternoon storms. Coastal areas remain pleasant even in rainy season.

Where to Stay

Beach lodges, boutique hotels, and beach clubs offer overnight stays. Mussulo’s beach clubs (Belas, Flamingo Bay) have day-and-overnight options. Cabo Ledo has dedicated surf-and-beach camps. Lobito’s Restinga peninsula has boutique hotels with direct beach access.

Activities

Surfing at Cabo Ledo. Swimming at most Mussulo and Benguela beaches. Snorkeling at protected coves. Beach picnics with fresh seafood. Sailing charters from Luanda and Lobito. Fishing trips for marlin, sailfish, and dorado.

Safety

Stick to known beaches and beach clubs. Currents can be strong on open Atlantic-facing beaches. Lifeguards are present at popular beach clubs but limited elsewhere. Always check local conditions.
